Caterina Morigi's Dual-Venue Exhibition in Turin Explores Material Sincerity
Caterina Morigi (Ravenna, 1991) presented her exhibition 'Sincerità della materia / Honesty of Matter' across two contrasting venues in Turin: the opulent Villa della Regina and the independent artist-run space Mucho Mas!. The project, winner of the ORA!X Strade per creativi under 30 call by Compagnia di Sanpaolo, is under the patronage of Regione Piemonte and Città di Torino, with partnerships including Istituto Caselli – Real Fabbrica di Capodimonte, Fondazione Morra, and Sara Ricciardi Studio. The exhibition investigates the relationship between the natural and the human in sculpture. Morigi draws visual rhymes between human epidermis and marble surfaces. At Villa della Regina, she references the historical 'Corona di Delizie'—a series of Savoy residences set in nature—where interior decorations mirrored surrounding vegetation. Small stone elements and their porcelain representations from outside are displayed indoors, symbolizing the self and our visual possession of nature. At Mucho Mas!, works are made of artificial marble using a complex ancient technique involving scagliola, pigment, and animal glue, taught by master Simone Desirò. The polishing process uses seven natural stones from pumice to hematite. The title 'Sincerità della materia' also plays on the Neapolitan meaning of 'sincero' for fruit whose beauty matches its taste. An eponymous book accompanies the exhibition.
