cultural-heritage · 2026-05-04

The Parco Internazionale della Scultura di Catanzaro, a 63-hectare free-access park adjacent to the city center managed by the Marca (Museo delle arti), has acquired a new sculpture by Venetian artist Gianfranco Meggiato (born 1963). Titled "Il mio pensiero libero" and standing 4 meters tall, the work is the park's first addition in three years. The park's collection already includes 25 works by international artists such as Stephan Balkenhol's "Uomo e Ballerina" (2005), Tony Cragg's "Cast Glances" (2002), Wim Delvoye's "Concrete Mixer" (2007), and Jan Fabre's "L'uomo che misura le nuvole" (1998). Rocco Guglielmo, president of the Fondazione Parco Internazionale della Scultura and head of Marca for three years, stated that the park is proud to acquire this work following the attention Meggiato received at Manifesta 12. He described the park as a reference point for art lovers and school groups from across Italy and one of the most significant public art projects nationally.
