Catanzaro's Performing Fest returns with Alfredo Jaar and Victoria Vesna
The second edition of the Performing Fest will take place from March 7 to 14, 2026, in Catanzaro, Italy. Curated by Dobrila Denegri, Simona Gavioli, and Simone Bergantini, the festival moves to the Giovanni Colosimo exhibition center, transforming it into a multidisciplinary arts village. The program includes workshops, talks, concerts, and performances by Alfredo Jaar and Victoria Vesna, who will choreograph a gold-based dinner for an intergalactic journey. The festival also features a New Gen section for students and discussions on algorithmic performativity linked to Brian Eno and the documentary "Eno" by Gary Hustwit. The event is funded by PNRR and builds on the 2025 debut, which featured Orlan and Rosa José Galindo. Denegri emphasizes the festival's focus on the Global South, counter-narratives to neofascism, and power asymmetries, with artists like Daniela Ortiz, Nezaket Ekici, Branko Milisković, Donna Kukama, and Lerato Shadi addressing postcolonial themes. The festival aims to enhance the visibility of the Accademia di Belle Arti di Catanzaro and foster collective growth for students.
