Catania's CollicaLigreggi splits, Massimo Ligreggi goes solo

institutional · 2026-05-04

After eight years of partnership, Massimo Ligreggi and Gianluca Collica have dissolved their collaboration, with Ligreggi taking over the gallery space on via Indaco in Catania and renaming it Galleria Massimo Ligreggi. The gallery, which began in 2011, had established a clear identity with national and international recognition. Ligreggi inaugurated his solo venture with a solo show of Zaza Calzia, whom he describes as a young but not youthful artist, and plans to bring her work to art fairs. The second exhibition features Dutch artist Eelco Brand, known for digital animations that resemble nature. Ligreggi also plans to collaborate with a Sicilian curator. He reflects on Catania as a dynamic, exotic city under a volcano and near the sea, with few contemporary art galleries, making his gallery a reference point. Regarding Manifesta's impact on Sicily, Ligreggi says it left a distant memory but nothing concrete for Catania, though Palermo made a good impression.
