Catania bids for Italian Capital of Culture 2028
Catania has been selected as a finalist for the Italian Capital of Culture 2028, with its proposal titled "Catania Continua" submitted in February 2026. This initiative, created by the municipality in collaboration with Pts and Melting Pro, incorporated over 110 contributions from the community, with 70% developed through workshops held from July to August 2025. The focus is on a progressive vision that tackles educational poverty, revitalizes the city center, reconnects with the sea, and encourages youth retention. Proposed initiatives include cultural centers, multidisciplinary festivals, and links between art and science. The participatory effort led to the establishment of the "Piano Partecipato della Cultura 2038." The bid draws inspiration from Goliarda Sapienza and Beppe Fava, with endorsements from Luca Parmitano and Rosario Fiorello. A final decision will be made by March 2026.
