Catalog of Massimo Bartolini's Italian Pavilion at 2024 Venice Biennale Published by Quodlibet

Quodlibet has published the catalog for Massimo Bartolini's Italian Pavilion at the 2024 Venice Biennale, titled "Due qui/To Hear." The two-volume set reflects the pavilion's bipartite structure, with green and violet covers corresponding to the notes A and A-flat based on Alexander Scriabin's 1911 color-sound correspondence. Volume one documents the artworks, including the installation "Due qui" (2024) with organ pipes arranged in a geometry reminiscent of Italian Baroque gardens, and features testimonies from contributors such as David George Haskell, who describes the Bodhisattva figure, and curator Luca Cerizza, who recounts the performance "Audience for a Tree" (2024). Volume two, "If only we had ears," is modeled on the public program held in the Giardino della Vergine, with sections on politics of listening, trust in the background, meditation in action, and historical devices influencing Bartolini's sound machines. The catalog follows a guide published by Electa and scores of the music composed for the pavilion, completing a system of propagations that extends the exhibition into the long time of publishing. The project, curated by Luca Cerizza, also included performances, readings, and collective listening sessions throughout the Biennale.
