Castello Grifeo Museum Reopens in Sicily with New Archaeological and Historical Exhibits

cultural-heritage · 2026-04-27

The Museo di Castello Grifeo in Partanna, Sicily, has been revitalized with a fresh design overseen by park director Bernardo Agrò. The reopening was marked by an inauguration attended by regional president Nello Musumeci, cultural heritage assessor Alberto Samonà, and Partanna mayor Nicolò Catania. The museum comprises four distinct sections: prehistory and archaeology featuring items dating back to 180,000 BC; medieval and modern art from the 15th to 17th centuries, showcasing pieces by Francesco Laurana and Simone de Wobreck; a display dedicated to the Adragna family's home museum; and ethno-anthropological artifacts. Additionally, one section highlights the history of Sicilian wine, connected to the Parco's 'colture culturali' initiative. Originally constructed in 1091, the castle underwent restoration in the 2000s and has hosted the Museo Regionale di Preistoria del Belice since 2007.
