Castello di Santa Severa's Cultural Revival Stalls Under New Regional Administration
The Castello di Santa Severa, located in Santa Marinella, hosted over 160 events during the summer of 2022, but has experienced a reduction in programming due to the current right-wing regional administration. The summer schedule for 2024, running from June 2 to August 25, features only weekly wine tastings and book promotions. In March 2024, PD councilor Cristina Michetelli expressed her concerns through a motion titled "Quali programmi per Santa Severa?" Meanwhile, PD’s Massimiliano Valeriani criticized the absence of a comprehensive season. This castle, established in the 14th century, was under the ownership of the Order of the Holy Spirit from 1482 until 1980. In response to the backlash, the Region introduced "Vivi il Castello di Santa Severa," which includes concerts and guided tours until August 31.
