Castello di Rivoli transforms into vaccination center in pilot project

institutional · 2026-04-27

The Castello di Rivoli – Museo d’Arte Contemporanea in Piedmont, Italy, is repurposing 10,000 square meters of its third floor as a COVID-19 vaccination center. The pilot project, titled 'L’arte cura' (Art Heals), is a collaboration with the city of Rivoli and the ASL of Turin 3. Director Carolyn Christov-Bakargiev proposed the initiative, noting that some of the world's first museums were formerly hospitals. The third floor currently houses Claudia Comte's wall painting exhibition but is large enough to ensure social distancing. The vaccination site will operate between March and April 2021, depending on vaccine and personnel availability, initially targeting the elderly population per national guidelines. Mayor Andrea Tragaioli confirmed the spaces meet vaccination protocol requirements. The project aligns with the national 'Cultura Italia' campaign to reopen cultural venues as vaccination hubs.
