Castello di Rivoli Opens New Museum Hub with Cerruti Collection
The Castello di Rivoli Museo d’Arte Contemporanea has inaugurated a new museum hub integrating the Collezione Cerruti, following a 2017 announcement. The private villa, built in 1967 in Provencal style by Francesco Federico Cerruti, is now open to the public. Cerruti, a Turin-based entrepreneur of Genoese origin who died in 2015 at 93, amassed over 500 works spanning medieval to contemporary art. The collection includes pieces from Renoir (his last purchase in 2014 at Sotheby's) to a 1918 Kandinsky watercolor, his first acquisition in 1969. The villa, renovated by Baietto Battiato Bianco and Con3Studio, features a four-story ascending layout from basement to tower bedroom, where gold-ground works by Sassetta and Paolo Veneziano are housed. An agreement between the Castello di Rivoli and the Fondazione Francesco Federico Cerruti grants the museum care, study, enhancement, and management of the collection. President Fiorenzo Alfieri called it an extraordinary, previously little-known collection returned to the community. Director Carolyn Christov-Bakargiev stated the hub will be a creative engine for the museum, fostering dialogue between ancient and contemporary through educational, artistic, and curatorial programs. A project commissioning works from over 30 international artists inspired by the Cerruti Collection will launch on May 12.
