Castello di Rivoli Opens 'Artists in War' Exhibition on Art and Conflict
From March 15 to November 19, 2023, the Castello di Rivoli Museo d'Arte Contemporanea will host 'Artists in War,' a significant exhibition that examines the portrayal of war by artists throughout history. Curated by Carolyn Christov-Bakargiev and Marianna Vecellio, the exhibition showcases over 140 pieces from 39 artists, such as Francisco Goya, Salvador Dalí, and Pablo Picasso. It draws inspiration from Goya's 'The Disasters of War' (1810-1815) and features two new commissions from Rahraw Omarzad and Nikita Kadan. Loans are provided by various Italian and international institutions. Christov-Bakargiev aims to encourage dialogue on war that transcends political and economic narratives, while museum president Francesca Lavazza highlighted the universal confrontation with war's horrors presented in the artworks.
