Castello di Miramare Reopens with Marcello Dudovich Exhibition

exhibition · 2026-04-27

The Castello di Miramare in Trieste reopened to the public on June 2, 2020, after the Covid-19 lockdown, attracting nearly 1,700 visitors on Republic Day. The castle, built between 1856 and 1860 for Ferdinand Maximilian of Habsburg, features original furnishings and a 22-hectare park with fountains and artificial lakes. Now a historical museum under Mibact, it is open daily from 9 am to 7 pm. The summer 2020 program includes the exhibition "Marcello Dudovich (1878-1962) fotografia fra arte e passione" at the former stables, running until January 10, 2021. Curated by Roberto Curci and Nicoletta Ossanna Cavadini in collaboration with the m.a.x. museo in Chiasso, the show presents over 300 works, including more than 200 photographs, some previously unseen, highlighting Dudovich's connection between photography and poster design. Dudovich is known for iconic posters for Borsalino, Campari, Martini, and La Rinascente. The exhibition also explores his relationship with Leopoldo Metlicovitz, his working methods with sketches and drafts, and his lesser-known work as a film director.
