Castello del Buonconsiglio undergoes major reinstallation, new exhibitions unveiled
The Castello del Buonconsiglio in Trento is undergoing a comprehensive reinstallation of its exhibition spaces, with new displays and a reorganized visitor experience. Director Laura Dal Prà outlined the changes, which include a redesigned entrance area with a new ticket office, a relocated bookshop, and a multimedia orientation space featuring a model of Trento and a 3D video on the castle's construction. The historical-artistic collections are now presented chronologically, starting in the 13th-century Castelvecchio with sections on archaeology and the Middle Ages. A second phase focusing on 16th-century collections is in planning, with completion expected by 2021. The museum has also launched a series of small, focused exhibitions called "Cammei," highlighting individual masterpieces. Currently on view are Francesco Hayez's "Riposo durante la fuga in Egitto" (1831), a 14th-century Veronese Madonna, and Andrea Riccio's "San Sebastiano." The Hayez painting, commissioned by local noble Simone Consolati, was rediscovered by curator Emanuela Rollandini and connects to Trento's Romantic-era cultural scene. Future plans include an exhibition on textiles in summer 2019. The reinstallation has received positive feedback, with 90% of over 5,000 online reviews being positive.
