Casentino municipalities launch WEGLINT app for Tuscan cultural heritage

digital · 2026-05-04

The mountain municipalities of Casentino in Tuscany have launched a project on the WEGLINT app (available for iOS and Android) to help tourists discover the region's history and art through short videos. The initiative focuses on the tradition of the Tuscan New Year, which was celebrated on March 25 (Annunciation Day) until a 1749 decree aligned it with January 1. The app uses geolocation to signal nearby points of interest, starting from the Pieve di Santa Maria Assunta in Stia, which houses Bicci di Lorenzo's Annunciation, and ending at the Basilica of San Francesco in Arezzo with Piero della Francesca's work. Pierangelo Bonazzoli of the educational resource center, who oversaw the project, explained that historian Francesco Pasetto helped create an art itinerary showing how different artists interpreted the Annunciation theme. Users can share, vote, and favorite explanatory videos on social media. Future thematic routes are planned.
