Casele restaurant transforms Munich butcher shop into Southern Italian dining experience

In Munich's Glockenbach neighborhood, Casele restaurant has opened in the former Schlagbauer family butcher shop, which operated for 75 years before closing in March 2024. Owner Raffaele Colonna, a German-Italian chef, host, and sommelier, discovered the vacant space during a Sunday walk. The restaurant, short for Casa di Raffaele, serves Southern Italian cuisine and features an interior designed by local studio Holzrausch (founded by Tobias Petri and Sven Petzold), which preserved original elements like the counter and cooling rooms. The design incorporates coffered timber ceilings, pale glazed tiles, dark green stone, stainless steel, brass lighting, British racing green velvet banquettes, and vintage pieces. A boardroom from a Munich insurance company was rebuilt inside the restaurant. Artworks include mirror works by Alexander Deubl, lighting by OHA, mixed-media pieces by Stefanie Seethaler, and flash photographs by Dylan Don. The menu features dishes like fried octopus with chickpeas and Sicilian capers, aubergine involtini, and Paccheri Genovese. The wine list includes Ferrari Perlé 2018, Antinori Tignanello 2022, Gaja Barbaresco 2012, and several vintages of Sassicaia. The restaurant is located at Müllerstrasse 25, 80469 Munich, with reservations booked three to four months ahead.
