Casanova + Hernandez to Reconstruct Albania's National Historical Museum

architecture-design · 2026-05-07

Casanova + Hernandez Architects, led by Jesus Hernandez Mayor and Helena Casanova, have been selected to reconstruct and musealize the National Historical Museum of Albania in Tirana. The project, curated by Hadir Al Koshta, spans 21,400 square meters and is scheduled for completion in 2026. Local architects iRI are collaborating. The renovation aims to transform the museum from an ideological instrument of the communist era into a platform for critical engagement, reflecting Tirana's rapid urban transformation from decades of isolation to a modern Mediterranean destination. The design, visualized by photographer MIR, reimagines the museum as a kaleidoscopic cultural hub amidst the city's proliferation of international architectural projects.
