Casablanca Six-Sheet Poster Leads Heritage Auctions' August Movie Posters Sale

market-auction · 2026-08-19

Heritage Auctions' upcoming Movie Posters Signature Auction, scheduled for August 28–29, will feature what is considered the finest surviving original-release six-sheet poster for Casablanca. Linen-backed and in exceptional condition, the piece is described as the best example of its kind to appear at the auction house. Zach Pogemiller, Associate Movie Posters Director, explained that such posters rarely survived because they were typically affixed to walls and later scraped off or covered by new releases. Theaters often dismantled them for display purposes, leaving no incentive to preserve them. Casablanca, which received the Academy Award for Best Picture in 1943, remains popular more than eight decades after its debut. The auction will include numerous movie posters, with this six-sheet as the standout lot.
