Casa Wabi and ArtReview announce three international artists for Oaxaca residency program

Selected for the Casa Wabi / ArtReview residency prize are Deniz Gül from Turkey, Dolores Furtado from Argentina, and Melania Toma from Italy. They are set to journey to Oaxaca, Mexico, to engage in the program at Casa Wabi, founded by Bosco Sodi in 2014. Gül intends to create sculptural assemblages from common materials while collaborating with local residents on workshop sculptures. Furtado plans to produce large sheets of paper using indigenous plants, focusing on themes of transformation and regeneration. Toma will undertake a collective project weaving fishing nets, addressing issues such as machismo, mestizaje, environmental racism, and women's organization in the regions of Laguna de Chacahua and Villa de Tututepec.
