Casa Vuota: new Rome exhibition space opens in Quadraro

exhibition · 2026-05-05

A new exhibition space called Casa Vuota opens on May 6 in the Quadraro district of Rome, a southern periphery long awaiting gentrification. Inspired by Kim Ki-duk's film "Ferro 3 – La casa vuota," the space maintains its domestic identity rather than becoming a sterile white cube. Curated by Francesco Paolo del Re and Sabino de Nichilo, Casa Vuota will host temporary contemporary art shows without betraying its residential character. The inaugural exhibition features "Gli Ospiti" by Puglian artist Pierluca Cetera, his first solo show in Rome, presenting a cycle of paintings created between 2013 and 2017 that depict ordinary figures occupying the apartment's rooms. The project emphasizes suspension and temporariness, preserving traces of previous inhabitants who lived there from the 1950s until recently. Quadraro has evolved from a peripheral borgata into an expanding neighborhood where street art museum M.U.R.o and creative spaces like Off1c1na, Studio 54, and Spazio Y have attracted artists due to lower rents. The area also has a history of resistance, notably the 1944 Nazi roundup of its population.
