Casa Tres Patios: Industrialized Wood Architecture in Torrelodones

ROOM2030, a Spanish startup, completed Casa Tres Patios in Torrelodones, Madrid, in just twelve weeks and one day. The 205-square-meter single-family home uses industrialized construction inspired by automotive assembly lines, with the room as the basic modular unit. The design integrates three volumes around existing holm oaks, creating patios and flexible spaces. The ventilated facade features Thermopine, a heat-treated pine wood by Savia (Finsa), finished in black stain. The project prioritizes biophilic and health-conscious design, including circadian lighting, recycled textile insulation, and natural wood. Thermopine offers enhanced durability, dimensional stability, and 25% better thermal insulation, with certifications including PEFC chain of custody, Cradle to Cradle Gold, and blockchain traceability via FORTRA. It has a negative carbon footprint, saving up to 2 tons of CO2 per cubic meter. ROOM2030's CEO Sergio Baragaño cites the need for housing in Europe and Spain as a driver for industrialized building systems. The house references pioneers Jean Prouvé and Buckminster Fuller, who advocated prefabrication and efficiency. Casa Tres Patios aims for high environmental certifications such as LEED, BREEAM, or VERDE.
