Casa Russolo Museum Opens in Portogruaro Dedicated to Futurist Luigi Russolo
On June 15, 2018, Casa Russolo, a permanent gallery dedicated to the multifaceted Futurist artist Luigi Russolo, will open in Portogruaro, Italy. Housed in his birthplace, Palazzo Altan Venanzio, the museum showcases the municipality's entire collection of his works, including five paintings: 'Impressioni di un bombardamento' (1926), 'Linee di forza-Forze della Folgore' (1912), 'I tre pini' (1944), 'Autoritratto' (1940), and 'Sera' (1945), previously displayed in the 'Sala Russolo' of the town hall. Russolo, a signatory of the 1910 Manifesto of Futurist Painting alongside Filippo Tommaso Marinetti, Umberto Boccioni, Carlo Carrà, Giacomo Balla, and Gino Severini, is best known for inventing the Intonarumori, noise-generating devices that anticipated synthesizers. The exhibition, curated by Boris Brollo, also features a replica of an Intonarumori (from the collection of Prof. Pietro Verardo), original engravings from 1906–1913, and correspondence between Russolo's widow Maria Zanovello and the municipality documenting the donation of 'Impressioni di un bombardamento'. Two touchscreens at the entrance provide information on Russolo's life and the Futurist movement.
