Casa Panoší Újezd Summer: A Rustic-Industrial Retreat in Czechia

Architect Lenka Milerová transformed a dilapidated pigsty into a summer house in Panoší Újezd, Czechia, for client Mrs. F. The project retained the original stone walls and bricks, adding monolithic concrete window jambs and a perimeter concrete bench that functions as step, wood storage, sofa, and bathtub. Steel window profiles without thermal bridges were used. The architect, a native of the area, collaborated closely with the client, who personally selected a skilled mason to cast all atypical concrete elements. Milerová's father welded the brackets for the main door. The design exposes structural materials and uses basic construction techniques, with concrete as the medium for details. The house prioritizes essential winter heating and floor ventilation, exempt from standard thermal performance requirements due to its summer house typology. The result is an unostentatious architecture that embraces roughness, imperfection, and simplicity, connecting with the site's atmosphere.
