Casa Museo Moravia: The Roman Home of Alberto Moravia Opens to the Public

cultural-heritage · 2026-05-04

Alberto Moravia's apartment at Lungotevere della Vittoria 1 in Rome, where he lived from 1963 until his death in 1990, has been preserved as a museum. The space is a dense accumulation of books, artworks, and personal objects reflecting his intellectual and domestic life. His Olivetti 82 typewriter remains on the desk, and the living room features a portrait by Renato Guttuso alongside African masks from travels with Dacia Maraini, and works by Toti Scialoja, Adriana Pincherle, and Mario Schifano. The house also contains pieces by Piero Guccione, Corrado Cagli, Giulio Turcato, and Franco Angeli. Now part of Rome's civic museum network, the Casa Museo Moravia is open to visitors and scholars. Recently, screenwriters Leonardo Guerra Seragnoli and Alessandro Valenti visited while adapting Moravia's debut novel "Gli Indifferenti" (1929) into a forthcoming film.
