Casa Melón: A top-floor Murcia apartment transformed by María Estrada and Dictinio de Castillo
In Murcia's historic Vistabella neighborhood, architects María Estrada and Dictinio de Castillo have renovated a 1940s apartment into a fluid, light-filled home. By removing a continuous false ceiling, they revealed generous volume, allowing for a floating walkway, a library nook, and a study-bedroom with integrated bathroom. A custom staircase of white sheet metal transitions to natural wood. The kitchen is tucked into what was once a passage, now a widened space for dining and work around a bespoke table. Two translucent glass screens filter north light from the courtyard and enable cross-ventilation. The design prioritizes visual connections and long interior views, linking to the river and park outside. Completed in 2024, the project embodies the architects' belief that each house is unique and personal.
