Casa Italia at Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics: Millium Exhibition

For the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, running until February 20, Casa Italia hosts a contemporary art exhibition titled Millium, curated by Rome-based gallery Ex Elettrofonica (Benedetta Acciari and Beatrice Bertini). Following previous editions in Rio 2016, Pyeongchang 2018, Cortina d'Ampezzo 2021, and Tokyo 2021, this year's theme explores the concept of travel in physical, virtual, and metaphorical senses. The exhibition draws inspiration from the ancient Silk Road and Marco Polo's Il Milione. Featured works include Laura Pugno's Primati (six flags celebrating tall plant species), Rino Stefano Tagliafierro's digital elaboration of Amos Nattini's Divina Commedia lithographs, Gufram pieces by Snarkitecture and Studio 65, Elena Mazzi's La descrizione del Mondo referencing the Egerton manuscript, Leone Contini's Foreign Farmers photographs from Manifesta 2018 in Palermo, and images from the ISS by Paolo Nespoli and Roland Miller. Franco Vaccari's interactive work È Bello essere Italiani! uses a QR code to reveal Italian explorers. The restaurant features Stellar Works Ming line furniture inspired by Chinese decorative arts.
