Casa Eva: Grid-like Oaxaca Apartments by S-AR

architecture-design · 2026-05-09

Casa Eva, a three-storey apartment building in Puerto Escondido, Mexico, by Mexican architecture firm S-AR, features a grid-like structure of concrete, wood, and steel. The design, by founders César Guerrero and Ana Cecilia Garza, responds to the coastal climate, lush vegetation, and sloping topography. Each of the three 180-square-metre residential units includes two bedrooms, service areas, social spaces, and a private plunge pool. The open grid, with few outer walls, creates seamless indoor-outdoor transitions. Privacy for bedrooms is provided by translucent lattice 'wooden boxes' and railings. The architects aimed to create freedom and connection with the environment, with each apartment relating differently to its natural surroundings. The project is described as a 'game of filling a spatial grid' that sparks new dialogues about architecture and its relationship with the environment.
