Casa do Cinema Manoel de Oliveira Opens in Porto, Designed by Álvaro Siza
In Porto, Portugal, the Casa do Cinema Manoel de Oliveira has officially opened its doors within Serralves Park, thanks to the design work of architect Álvaro Siza. This film center comprises a renovated garage and a newly constructed building that safeguards the archive of filmmaker Manoel de Oliveira, who passed away in 2015 at the age of 106. The initiative was initiated with a protocol in 2009 and an agreement in 2013, with construction commencing in January 2018. The archive, which is currently undergoing digitization, includes documents, scripts, and films. The garage features exhibition spaces and a library, while the new section includes a 59-seat auditorium. Initial exhibitions showcase a documentary and a temporary display on Oliveira's 1982 film "Visit or Memories and Confessions." The center plans to offer a variety of film programs.
