Casa Capitão: Lisbon's New Cultural Venue by Miguel Marcelino

architecture-design · 2026-05-24

In Lisbon's Beato district, Casa Capitão has been inaugurated, a cultural venue crafted by architect Miguel Marcelino. Finished in 2025, this initiative repurposes a building from the late 19th century into a hub for music, art, gastronomy, and intellectual discourse. A notable feature of the renovation is its bold exposed concrete crown, setting it apart architecturally. Covering 1,156 square meters, the project was overseen by curator Susanna Moreira and a collaborative team that included Miguel Coutinho, Gauthier Gaillard, and others. Clients Gonçalo Riscado and João Riscado engaged A2P for structural engineering and various specialists for installations, fire safety, acoustics, and audiovisual consulting. The original architecture is accentuated by the new concrete addition, creating a distinctive architectural identity, with photos by Lourenço T. Abreu capturing the essence of the project.
