Casa Brasil Opens Two Solo Shows in Rio: Thomaz Velho and Eloá Carvalho

On August 13, 2026, Casa Brasil in Rio de Janeiro opens two solo exhibitions: 'Tormenta' by Thomaz Velho and 'Entretempos' by Eloá Carvalho. Velho's show, curated by Adriana Nakamuta, features 11 works, including new and recent pieces, marking a shift in scale, rhythm, and intensity. His paintings, some up to three meters tall, use acrylic, paint, and drawing, and were developed in a studio in a former textile factory in Rio Comprido, whose high ceilings allowed for larger formats. The title reflects a faster, more intense creative process, with reds and yellows dominating the palette, evoking Brazilian landscape and architecture. Carvalho's 'Entretempos', curated by Cadu and Marcelo Campos, reconfigures existing works from different periods, exploring memory through images, daily life, and architecture. The exhibition is installed as a site-specific intervention, with a continuous chromatic intervention on the walls, creating an intimate atmosphere. Both shows run until September 6, 2026, Tuesday to Sunday, 10am-5pm, at Rua Visconde de Itaboraí, 78, Centro, Rio de Janeiro, with free admission. Velho's background includes studies at the Escola de Artes Visuais do Parque Lage, a degree in Arts & Design, assisting Carlos Vergara, and eight years as a scenographer at TV Globo. Carvalho has shown at the Museu de Arte Moderna do Rio de Janeiro and the Escola de Artes Visuais do Parque Lage.
