Cartier watch and painting by Jackie Kennedy head to Christie's auction

market-auction · 2026-05-05

Christie's will auction a Cartier watch and a watercolor painting by Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis in New York on June 21. The 18-karat gold watch, engraved with the inscription 'Stas to Jackie. 23 Feb. 63. 2:05 am to 9:35 pm', was a gift from her brother-in-law Prince Stanisław Radziwill. The engraving marks the duration of a 50-mile hike at Palm Beach that Radziwill completed in 19 hours and 30 minutes, part of a fitness initiative inspired by a 1908 executive order from President Theodore Roosevelt. The accompanying watercolor, painted by Jackie in 1963, depicts Radziwill and family friend Chuck Spalding during the hike. The piece is framed and inscribed 'Jackie to Stas with love and admiration'. The watch is estimated at $60,000–$120,000. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the National Endowment for the Arts. The sale is part of Christie's annual New York Rare Watches and American Icons auction.
