Cartier-Bresson and Matisse Exhibitions at Forte di Bard This Summer
This summer, Forte di Bard in Valle d'Aosta presents two major exhibitions dedicated to French masters of photography and painting. Currently on view is "Henri Cartier-Bresson. Landscapes/Paysages," organized in collaboration with Magnum Photos International and Fondation Henri Cartier-Bresson in Paris. It features 105 black-and-white photographs personally selected by Cartier-Bresson, taken between the 1930s and 1990s across Europe, Asia, and America. Opening in July is "Henri Matisse. Sulla scena dell'arte," an unprecedented exhibition focusing on Matisse's relationship with theater and dramaturgy. Curated by Markus Müller, director of the Kunstmuseum Pablo Picasso in Münster, it includes over 90 works spanning 35 years, from 1919 until the artist's death in 1954. The show explores Matisse's interaction with his models, his collection of objects reflecting an interest in orientalist decorativism, and his development of the papiers découpés technique in the 1940s, notably the Jazz series.
