Cartier and Myth Exhibition Opens at Rome's Capitoline Museums
For the first time in its nearly 300-year history, Palazzo Nuovo at the Capitoline Museums in Rome hosts a temporary exhibition: 'Cartier e il Mito ai Musei Capitolini'. The show, on view until March 15, 2026, pairs Cartier jewelry with ancient sculptures from the Albani collection. Curated by jewelry historian Bianca Cappello, archaeologist Stéphane Verger, and Capitoline Superintendent Claudio Parisi Presicce, the exhibition is promoted by Roma Capitale and the Sovrintendenza Capitolina, in collaboration with Cartier and supported by Zètema Progetto Cultura. The installation is designed by Sylvain Roca, with a scenographic prologue by three-time Oscar winner Dante Ferretti. The exhibition traces 170 years of European taste, from 19th-century neoclassicism to contemporary reinterpretations, featuring 3,500 pieces from the Cartier Collection. It explores the relationship between classical mythology and jewelry, with sections on chronological evolution and thematic myth connections. Highlights include a tiara inspired by a bust of Livia as Ceres and a pendant derived from the famous dove mosaic. The show incorporates video, sound, graphics, and olfactory installations by Mathilde Laurent.
