Carsten Höller's Prada Double Club Miami Opens for Three Nights

exhibition · 2026-05-05

During Miami art and design week centered on Art Basel Miami Beach, Fondazione Prada presents 'The Prada Double Club Miami,' a new iteration of Carsten Höller's relational artwork. The ephemeral night club runs only three nights, from December 5 to 7, 2017, at a 1920s film studio in Miami's Design District. The installation juxtaposes a monochrome dance club (white, black, grays) with a colorful tropical garden, creating a schizophrenic wonderland. Höller describes the monochrome zone as making guests feel like the only colored element in a black-and-white film, while the polychrome area renders them pale. Musical programming differs: international DJs indoors, South American rhythms outdoors reflecting Miami's diasporic Latin identity. The original Double Club ran eight months in a Victorian warehouse in London (2008-2009), contrasting Congolese and Western cultures. Höller, born 1961 in Brussels, resident in Sweden, known for ludic, interactive, nonsensical works, previously had a major 2016 exhibition at Hangar Bicocca in Milan and a recent show at Gagosian Gallery New York.
