Carsten Höller and Adam Haar Launch Dream Hotel at Fondation Beyeler

exhibition · 2026-05-01

Carsten Höller, in collaboration with MIT dream-science researcher Adam Haar, presents the first room of his Dream Hotel project at Fondation Beyeler in Riehen/Basel. Titled 'Dream Hotel Room 1: Dreaming of Flying with Flying Fly Agarics,' the installation features a moving bed on a hexapod base, a flying mushroom replica, and audio prompts designed to induce flying dreams. Visitors can book the room for 45-minute naps or overnight stays. The project stems from Höller's 2021 MIT residency and is part of the exhibition 'Dance with Daemons,' running through August 11, in partnership with LUMA Foundation. Höller and Haar emphasize the work's dual nature as both art and science, exploring dream incubation and the ethics of manipulating the subconscious. The artists plan six more dream rooms, each targeting specific dream types, with the eventual goal of a traveling dream hotel.
