Gooding & Christie's will auction Carroll Shelby's personal 1964 Shelby Cobra Daytona, chassis CSX2300, at Pebble Beach next month. The car is expected to sell for over $25 million, making it one of the most expensive cars ever at auction. It is the third of only six Cobra Daytonas built, completed in late 1963. The coupe debuted at the 1964 Tour de France Automobile and helped Ford win the 1965 FIA GT championship, becoming the first American car to win an international title. Shelby owned the car from 1975 to 1998, after which it was restored to 1965 specification by Cobra specialist Mike McCluskey. It is the only Cobra Daytona ever owned by its creator.
