Carrie Mae Weems retrospective at Gallerie d'Italia features 100 works including new commission Preach

This showcase spans her entire career and includes her latest commission, Preach, which delves into religious expression among Afro-descendant Americans. Born in 1953, Weems emphasizes themes of identity and power while representing historically marginalized communities. The exhibition features earlier works such as Family Pictures and Stories (1978-1984) and the Kitchen Table Series (1990), alongside more recent creations like The Shape of Things (2021) and Leave Now!
