Carolina Fence Garden and Seed Initiative at SC Museum

cultural-heritage · 2026-04-24

The South Carolina State Museum has introduced Planting South Carolina Roots, a community seed and native garden initiative in collaboration with The Riley Institute's DLI Midlands Cohort. In conjunction with the South Carolina Wildlife Federation, the project will establish a Carolina Fence Garden, designed as a wildlife-friendly habitat that incorporates a split-rail 'worm' fence. By utilizing native plants, the garden will draw in pollinators and birds, fostering vital habitats while offering educational experiences. This initiative seeks to engage gardeners of all ages with the natural history and plant life of the state.
