Carolina Caycedo's Artes Mundi 10 Exhibition Draws from Welsh Peace Protests and Indigenous River Activism

Carolina Caycedo is among the seven contenders for the Artes Mundi 10 award, which offers a £40,000 prize from the Bagri Foundation. Her exhibition at Oriel Davies Gallery in Newtown, Wales, showcases works created from 2016 to early 2023. Notably, it includes My Feminine Lineage of Environmental Struggle (2019–), featuring original protest banners from the 1981 Women for Life on Earth march. Another piece, Reciprocal Sacrifice (2022), highlights initiatives to undam the Snake River, with a voiceover by Thomas Gregory from the Nez Perce Tribe. Originally from the UK and of Colombian descent, Caycedo, now residing in Los Angeles, intends to support El Respiro/Respire if she wins. The exhibition is open until 25 February, with the winner to be revealed in January.
