award · 2026-04-24

The prestigious World Press Photo of the Year 2026 has been given to Carol Guzy, an American photographer, for her poignant image capturing two girls holding onto their father during his arrest by ICE agents in a New York immigration court. The Miami Herald commissioned this powerful photograph, which depicts Luis being taken into custody while his wife Cocha and their three daughters, aged 7, 13, and 15, observe the scene. This work is part of Guzy's series titled "ICE Arrests at New York Court." Joumana El Zein Khoury, the executive director of World Press Photo, called it "a raw testimony of family separation." At 70, Guzy has received four Pulitzer Prizes. Finalists also included Saber Nuraldin and Victor J. Blue, while Chantal Pinzi claimed victory in the Africa Stories category.
