Carme Pinós unveils MPavilion in Melbourne, the fifth edition of the Australian pavilion
Carme Pinós, the first Spanish female architect to receive a public commission on Australian soil, has unveiled the MPavilion in Melbourne, promoted by the Naomi Milgrom Foundation. The pavilion, now in its fifth edition, will host public initiatives such as Mtalks, Mmeets, Mmusic, and Mkids over the next four months. Pinós, who has led Estudio Carme Pinós since 1991, accepted the invitation after Rem Koolhaas and David Gianotten of OMA, Bijoy Jain of Studio Mumbai, Amanda Levete of AL_A, and Sean Godsell. Her design features a roof composed of two sharp screens made of thin wooden slats and steel profiles, with matching lateral finishes. Inside, fixed seating is complemented by stools designed by Pinós, based on the interlock between a round seat and vertical supports.
