Carly Simon reveals Parkinson's diagnosis, announces new album

Carly Simon, the 83-year-old singer-songwriter, has revealed her battle with Parkinson's disease, describing it as "difficult, frustrating, and sometimes frightening." In a BBC statement, she mentioned she is "learning how to live with it" while still pursuing her career. Recently, she underwent surgery to remove a cancerous growth from her face, which has made her more self-conscious in public. Her health challenges began with arthritis in her knees and hip; after three unsuccessful replacement surgeries, she was diagnosed with Parkinson's at the Mayo Clinic. This condition leads to episodes of anxiety and depression, which she likened to a part of her brain misplacing a guest list. Despite her struggles, Simon plans to release a new album, "Comes In Waves," in August 2026, with the first single, "Howl," released last month. Known for classics like "You're So Vain," she auctioned the identity of that song's subject for $50,000 in 2003. Parkinson's disease is the fastest-growing neurological disorder worldwide, impacting around 153,000 individuals in the UK.
