Carlo Ratti Renovates Agnelli Foundation in Turin with Digital Architecture

The Fondazione Agnelli in Turin, renovated by Carlo Ratti Associati, opened on June 15. The historic building, once home to Senator Giovanni Agnelli, was previously renovated by architect Albertini in the 1970s. The new design features IoT sensors for personalized workspaces, an indoor positioning system by Siemens Desigo CC, and flexible interiors with movable glass panels and acoustic curtains. The foundation, led by director Andrea Gavosto, with president Maria Sole Agnelli and vice president John Elkann, will house Talent Garden, Europe's largest physical platform for digital talent, offering 3,000 sqm of coworking space. Olafur Eliasson created a site-specific work titled "Tempo junction" (2017) using glass panels and mirrors. Works by Darren Bader, Lara Favaretto, Mark Handforth, Gabriel Kuri, Francesco Vezzoli, and Blair Thurman are displayed, selected by Galleria Franco Noero. A wellness area by Technogym generates electricity from exercise. A restaurant, Gastronomia Torino, will open by June, with advice from chef Alfredo Russo and interactive ordering kiosks. The historic garden was restored by landscape architect Louis Benech, recreating the early 20th-century orchard.
