Villa K2, an impressive modernist getaway crafted by renowned Italian architect Carlo Mollino in the early 1950s, is now on the market for the first time in many years. Nestled in the hillside village of Agra with views of Lake Maggiore, this property was initially commissioned as a holiday home for Milanese businessman Luigi Cattaneo. Mollino, celebrated for his fusion of surrealism, engineering, and sensual modernism, designed the residence to seem as if it were floating in nature, featuring a striking cantilever held up by slender columns. The approximately 4,800-square-foot home includes large glass walls, wooden interiors, custom-built cabinetry, and original decor. Currently, it is a more modest iteration of Mollino's original vision, which proposed two fully cantilevered levels and a massive glass fireplace. This five-bedroom home spans two stories, offering two bathrooms, a lengthy terrace, and nearly nine acres of private land, which includes a caretaker's cottage and a former stable. Mollino's furnishings often fetch high prices at Christie's and Sotheby's, and his architectural creations are increasingly acknowledged as significant examples of postwar Italian modernism. Villa K2 is priced at €1.88 million (around $2.2 million) and is being represented by Savills.
