Carlo Fuortes Appointed CEO of Rai, Leaving Rome Opera House

Carlo Fuortes, the cultural manager who successfully turned around the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma, has been appointed as the new CEO of Rai, Italy's public broadcasting company. The appointment came directly from Prime Minister Mario Draghi, making it impossible for Fuortes to decline. He will leave his position at the Opera House, where he had a mandate until 2025, to take on the challenge of reforming Rai, which is described as plagued by inefficiencies and corruption. Fuortes previously managed the Auditorium Parco della Musica, making it the second most important cultural venue globally after Lincoln Center in New York. He also worked at Palazzo delle Esposizioni, Scuderie del Quirinale, and helped resolve issues at Teatro Petruzzelli di Bari and Arena di Verona. His appointment raises hopes for both economic recovery and content improvement at Rai, similar to his achievements at the Opera House.
