Carlo Ciussi retrospective at Ghisla Art Collection in Locarno

exhibition · 2026-04-27

The Ghisla Art Collection in Locarno is hosting a retrospective of Italian artist Carlo Ciussi (Udine, 1930–2012), titled 'La metamorfosi del colore' and curated by Davide Mogetta. The exhibition features 27 works spanning over forty years, organized in collaboration with the Archivio Carlo Ciussi on the tenth anniversary of his death. Ciussi developed a distinctive language from the easily recognizable mark of the mid-1960s to a composed geometric abstraction in the 1970s. Highlights include two large untitled works from 2003–05, where the squares of his early works become misaligned with color smudges, achieving a powerful three-dimensionality that suggests liberation from constraint.
