architecture-design · 2026-05-04

Carla Juaçaba, born in Rio de Janeiro in 1976, specializes in sustainable architecture that integrates urban settings with natural environments. Since the early 2000s, her designs have emphasized fundamental forms, essential gestures, and economical materials. Her prominent works include a studio-house nestled in the Itanhangá rainforest, a residence in Barra da Tijuca that conserves Atlantic Forest trees, and a multi-level villa in Santa Teresa. In 2012, she created the Humanidade Pavilion for the UN Rio+20 Conference, which drew 200,000 visitors and earned her the inaugural archVision Prize – Women and Architecture. At the 2018 Venice Architecture Biennale, she participated in the Vatican Chapels and received the AR Emerging Architecture Award. Currently, she is engaged in projects in Petrópolis, Milan Design Week, and Porto, with her work showcased in "Infinito Vão" until April 28.
