Carbonnet and Cuzin Dialogue at Carré d'Art, Nîmes
For its first summer season, new curator Françoise Cohen boldly inaugurated an exhibition policy at Carré d'Art in Nîmes by pairing two lesser-known French artists: Bruno Carbonnet, a painter of the subject, and Christophe Cuzin, a painter of the object. Cuzin created windows in the museum's interior walls, offering glimpses between galleries and reflecting Carbonnet's canvases. The artists, previously unacquainted, developed a dialogue based on mutual respect and meticulous site-specific work. Cuzin's yellow vinyl suspended from the ceiling irradiated a room with pure primary energy, while Carbonnet's series of skies explored touch and material across formats. The exhibition ran from July 7 to September 30, 2001.
