Caravaggio's 'The Musicians' on View as Accademia Carrara Reopens
Accademia Carrara in Bergamo reopens on May 22 with Caravaggio's 'The Musicians' on loan from the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. The painting was originally part of the Peterzano exhibition that closed early due to COVID-19. The Met extended the loan through summer as a gesture of solidarity between New York and Bergamo, two cities heavily affected by the pandemic. Director Maria Cristina Rodeschini thanked Met director Max Hollein and Keith Christiansen. The museum implements safety measures including thermal scanners, sanitizer, masks, gloves, and social distancing bracelets from Gruppo Fidelitas that vibrate when visitors are too close. Extended hours run until June 2. Also on view is Antonio Rovaldi's 'Il suono del becco del picchio' in the GAMeC project space.
