Caravaggio opera debuts at Festival Pergolesi Spontini in Jesi
In its 17th edition, the Festival Pergolesi Spontini in Jesi debuted a new one-act opera, 'Il colore del sole', on September 8, 2017, at the Teatro Pergolesi. This opera, inspired by Andrea Camilleri's novel, delves into Caravaggio's evasion of justice from 1606 to 1608 following the murder of Ranuccio Tommasoni. Composed by Lucio Gregoretti, it features an actor alongside a double choir of soloists, incorporating elements of Renaissance and Baroque polyphony. The production is a collaboration with the Teatro Luciano Pavarotti in Modena, where it will be performed in October, alongside contributions from Roma Sinfonietta and the Accademia d'Arte Lirica di Osimo. Key creatives include director Gabriele Bonolis and costume designer Angela Buscemi. The cast includes Massimo Odierna and singers such as Cristina Neri and Jaime Canto Navarro. Additionally, on September 9, the festival showcased 'Horme Armè' at the Basilica di Loreto, featuring polyphonic works from the 15th and 16th centuries by composers like Josquin Desprez, performed by the ensemble Odhecaton under Paolo Dal Col's direction.
