Caravaggio docu-film 'Caravaggio a Roma' premieres at the Vatican
Directed by Giovanni Piscaglia, the documentary film 'Caravaggio a Roma. Il viaggio del Giubileo' had its premiere at the Vatican and The Space Cinema Moderno in Rome, with Pope Leo XIV in attendance. It is set to be released on December 1, 2, and 3, 2025. Produced by 3D Produzioni and Nexo Studios, with support from Sky, Avvenire, Gallerie d'Italia – Intesa Sanpaolo, and the MIC, the film delves into the human and spiritual aspects of Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio (1571–1610). It links the Jubilee of 1600 to the present Jubilee and features commentary from historians and artists, analyzing significant works such as Judith Beheading Holofernes and the Martyrdom of Saint Ursula. The screenplay is by Eleonora Angius, inspired by a concept from Didi Gnocchi.
